You Know You’re a Writer on Vacation When…

You know you’re a writer on vacation when:

You pack two notebooks but forget sunblock.

The sign ‘Preacher’s Slough Road’ makes you think, “Sounds like a murder. I wonder if the victim should be found by the main character?”

Your train of thought flows like a narrative.

A freshly painted church surrounded by worn houses sparks “This looks like the intro to a story.”

Strange noises in the middle of the night at your hotel has you thinking, “Definitely a serial killer. I bet it’s the guy below us, using a beach shovel. Maybe he tosses the bodies in the ocean…no, that’s too messy. He’d need to toss them in the bathtub, fill it with ice, and then harvest the organs. But the ice machine is in the lobby, that’d look suspicious…I should write this down.”

You always have a great idea after you’ve left your notebook behind.
